History of the 1976 BMW 2002

The BMW 2002 entered the U.S. market in the late 1960s and remained popular through the 1970s as a compact performance coupe. Its simple lines, rear-wheel-drive layout, and available manual transmission made it a common sight on American roads during that decade. The 1976 model year sits at the end of the original 2002 run before the 3 Series replaced it.

Productions set in the 1970s often use the 2002 to establish European or American urban environments of the era. The silver-over-beige color combination shown on this example matches many surviving cars from the period. Its two-door coupe shape and modest size allow it to blend into street scenes without overpowering other action.
